Living Learning CommunitiesUSF offers several innovative Living Learning communities that enhance the overall university experience while providing special emphasis on one’s academic program or area of special interest. Many of these programs require a separate application specific to the program. Please see more information regarding these programs below: Bulls Business CommunityThe Bulls Business Community (BBC) is a residential learning community housed in Maple Hall and designed for students intending to major in business. It offers the opportunity to live with other motivated business students who will be taking similar courses as well as the opportunity to participate in exclusive events and activities designed to support and develop necessary business skills. Participation in the BBC provides the opportunity to network with college of Business administrator and faculty as well as Tampa Bay business leaders. The BBC benefits from a College of Business Advisor dedicated to assist students develop a relationship with the College of Business. Follow this link to apply for the Bulls Business Community (BBC). Career Exploration--Transitional Learning Community (TLC)The Transitional Learning Community (TLC) is housed in Beta Hall, home of the First-Year Experience program. TLC is designed for first-year students who are undeclared and/or undecided in their major at USF. During Fall Semester, all TLC students take a customized University Experience (UE) course together. This course devotes approximately five weeks, nearly a third of the semester, to major and career exploration. Out of the classroom, TLC students are invited to participate in a wide range of career and major exploration activities. These activities involve career assessments, USF alumni presentations, and hands-on workshops. All activities are designed to enhance each student’s career development through experiential learning. For additional information, click here. Engineering Community LLCThe Engineering Living and Learning Community (ELLC) is a residential learning community for students majoring in engineering. The community is housed in Maple Hall. The ELLC is a place where students will live and learn together and make connections to their college and the profession of engineering. This special opportunity allows a limited number of first-year students to live together during the fall and spring of their critical first year at USF. Students in the ELLC enroll in the same math and science high-priority prerequisite courses.; Tutors, advisors and peer-mentors also assist students in the hall. These first-year students will have opportunities to interact with faculty, staff and upper class students from the College of Engineering, often without having to leave their hall. The College of Engineering and Housing & Residential Education will partner to offer programs that support the shared academic interests and goals of the community. First Year Experience (FYE) ProgramThe FYI program is designed for first-year students who are highly motivated to have a successful transition to college life. Beta Hall is home for these students. The FYE Program offers the opportunity to live and learn with other first year students who seek opportunities to get involved in residence hall and university-wide activities. Students are expected to participate in programs designed specifically for first year students. Students will work with their Resident Assistant on their “Student Success Initiative,” a guided workbook to chart goals and progress through their first year. The RAs in this hall also offer additional support and mentoring to new students. Members of the First Year Experience Program are strongly encouraged to enroll in the University Experience course. Honors CommunityStudents in the University Honors Program have priority to live in Cypress A, where USF Honors College faculty, Housing & Residential Education staff, and the Honors Council work together to provide special programming with an emphasis on the needs of Honors students. If you have been accepted to the University Honors Program and wish to live in Cypress A, please be sure to apply no later than March 1 to guarantee housing in Cypress A and indicate Cypress A as your first choice of housing on your housing preference list. Wellness Hall (Substance-free lifestyle required) The 2008-2009 academic year will mark the third year for the Wellness Hall in Eta Hall. This option requires a commitment to a substance free lifestyle, which means that these residents do not use tobacco, alcohol, or any other drugs at any time. The emphasis is on a healthy lifestyle and programming centers around the dimensions of Wellness, including social, value, spiritual, physical, emotional, life planning, and intellectual wellness. The students in this community and the Housing & Residential Education staff work together to provide creative programming that meets the needs of the Wellness residents. Leadership HouseWe at the Leadership House have a shared responsibility in helping each other develop leadership skills proven effective in the real world. This student-centered program, the first of its kind in the United States, is currently modeled after the ideal of servant-leadership. We pride ourselves in our commitment and dedication to this style of leadership; which focuses on serving others first and as a result developing as a leader. The Leadership House, located in Theta Hall is home to 39 diverse students from different academic interests, from first year though seniors who have interest in experientially advancing their personal leadership skills. We are also involved in on-campus activities and events throughout the year such as Dance Marathon, Stride for Strays, and Community Plunge. |
